What we do

Cement is Alison Hand and Julian Wild. We offer in depth mentoring sessions online or in person at your studio, to get to know your art practice, draw out your authentic subject matter and language, and discover ways to truly develop your work. We work individually with artists to give bespoke advice and critique, tailored specifically to what is in front of us, and your ambitions for it.

We provide advice on professional avenues to suit and build your practice, including what to apply for, offering help on applications. We work with several clients on the DYCP process, both on the application and further mentoring under the scheme.

As experienced artists we also offer technical, practical input and advice on materials and methods of making and installing.

We are unique in that we work with all art practices from painting to sculpture, to installation, to drawing and beyond. We have no medium hierarchy or preference, it is all about what you make.

We offer workshops on how to present, discuss, and write about your art practice, including how to write an artist statement that describes exactly what you do, and how to talk about your work to others. We offer website content and design advice, and can provide a full website design and construction service for artists.

We are established artists and educators, with over 30 years art tutoring and lecturing experience between us. We exhibit our work, develop and curate exhibitions, and write about art.

Coming soon……Cement Art School.

Based in a studio and workshop complex in Newhaven, East Sussex, we will be offering weekend, evening, and short courses, along with a longer term mentored Resident Artist Programme with studio space and practical workshops.
