Cement is a new creative space based in Newhaven, East Sussex, offering dynamic art education taught in working artists’ studios for people at all stages of their creative journey. Founded by artists Julian Wild and Alison Hand, Cement provides a platform for both emerging and established artists to develop their practice through workshop courses, open access and mentoring led by experienced practitioners and educators.

With a strong focus on sculpture, painting, and material experimentation, our programmes are hands-on and critically engaged—connecting contemporary practice with technical skill. Whether you’re a beginner looking to explore your creativity or a professional artist seeking to refine your approach, Cement offers a supportive and stimulating space to grow.

Beyond teaching, Cement Art School aims to build community through collaboration and conversation. Our ethos is grounded in generosity, rigour, and curiosity. We encourage the connection of artists with each other and with wider audiences. We are embedded in the coastal environment and post-industrial surroundings of Newhaven, using them as both resource and inspiration. Through our work and mentoring, we are building a sustainable and inclusive model for arts education outside of traditional institutions.
